The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made several strategic changes to their team and leadership before Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2025, with the aim of defending their title and securing a fourth record championship championship

Veteran Batter Ajinka Rahane was named the new KKR captain, after the departure of former captain Shreyas Iyer to Punjab Kings, Rahane, 36, brings a wealth of experience and previously led to India to a memorable victory of the Australian test series during the 2020-21 season. Expressing his honor for leading one of the most successful IPL franchises, Rahane said: "I think we have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and accepting the challenge of defending our title." ​

Supporting Rahane, the Venkatesh Iyer sewing armchair was appointed runner-up. Training Team Update

In a significant move, KKR has appointed former West Indies Polival Dwayne Bravo as the team's mentor, replacing Gauut Gambeir, who left to become the main coach of India's men's cricket team. Bravo, who retired from professional cricket after an illustrious 21year career. is the most successful player on the Twenty20 Cricket with 631 slides. Squad retention and launches
KKR has maintained several important players before the 2025 season, focusing on maintaining a strong central team. Notable retention include


Rinku Singh: The beater was retained by ₹ 13 Crore, reflecting his emergence as a reliable finisher. ​ IPL T20 League 

Varun Chakaravarthy: The mysterious spinner remains a crucial part of the KKR bowling attack, retained at ₹ 12 Crore. ​ 

 Sunil Narine and Andre Russell: The All-Rounds of the Caribbean were kept in Crore each, bringing their experience and invaluable versatility to the team. ​ IPL T20 League 

The franchise also maintained harsh rana and Ramandeep Singh, both at ₹ 4, adding depth to the bowling departments and rebound, respectively. ​ 

Auction acquisitions 

KKR made strategic acquisitions during the auction to reinforce its team: 

Venkatesh Iyer: The franchise secured the multipurpose of a record of ₹ 23,75 crores, making it the most expensive multipurpose in the history of IPL. ​ 

KOCK Quinton: South African Witcheetkeeper-Debistor was acquired by ₹ 3.6 Crore, which should provide stability in the higher order. ​ 

Anrich Nortje: The southern -African player was hired by ₹ 6.5 crore, adding an express pace to KKR's bowling programming. ​ 

Moeen Ali: The English multipurpose was purchased by ₹ 2 Crore, offering the depth options of rebounds and rotation options. ​

The KKR squad ended for IPL 2025 comprises a balanced mixture of experienced international and emerging Indian talents:
